More than 140 years educating generations
Beginnings
A group of parents from Sant Joan Despí saw the need to create a school to educate their children. Josep Maluquer i de Tirrell (Member of Parliament and Royal Senator) proposed the foundation of the Ateneu de Sant Joan Despí.
Board
The creation of a Board was proposed to carry out the first steps in creating an educational center. The Ateneu Instructiu was established in Mr. Baldiri Grés's café rooms, who provided the premises free of charge.
Tree Festival
First tree festival promoted by the Ateneu. Pine trees were planted at the RENFE station.
Relocation
The association moves to the premises at 2 España Street.
Mixed Education
The Ateneu becomes a mixed-gender institution.
First Acquisition
Purchase of the building at 46 España Street for 1,250,000 pesetas. Renovations are carried out and the building is inaugurated.
Second Acquisition
Acquisition of "San Saturio" school on Torrent d'en Negre/Bon Viatge street. Extensions to the España 46 building and opening of two classrooms at Canal Avenue.
Centenary Celebration
Celebration events for the Ateneu's first centenary.
Third Acquisition
Purchase of the Lumen Institution building at 29 Torrent d'en Negre street.
Fourth Acquisition
Purchase of land on Francesc Macià avenue opposite the municipal sports field. Construction of a building for educational purposes.
New Educational Stages
Implementation of Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education.
Inauguration and Educational Expansion
Inauguration of the new building at Canal Avenue. Educational expansion with Humanities and Social Sciences Baccalaureate studies (2000-2001 Academic Year).
New Educational Stages
Educational offering expanded with Natural Sciences, Health Sciences and Technology Baccalaureate.
125th Anniversary Celebration
Celebration events for the Ateneu's 125th anniversary.
Dual Bachelor
Added Dual Bachelor, a program to which students can adhere from 3rd of ESO. This option enhances multilingualism and also technological skills.
