Adventure, nature, and coexistence: primary school students experience an unforgettable retreat at Collell

School retreats are, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated moments of the entire school year. It is an experience that goes far beyond leaving the classrooms: it offers a unique opportunity to learn in a different environment, gain autonomy, and strengthen the bonds of friendship that last forever.

This year, the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from Escola Ateneu have enjoyed an extraordinary stay at the Collell retreat house, a privileged natural environment ideal for personal development and teamwork.

Three days of activities and challenges in nature

For three intense days and two nights away from home, the children have had the opportunity to disconnect from their daily routine and fully immerse themselves in the adventure. The organized activities have been designed to enhance different areas of their development:

• Sports and adventure: Tree circuits, zip lines, and cooperative games allowed them to overcome small personal challenges and gain confidence in themselves.

• Coexistence and autonomy: Managing their own belongings, organizing the rooms, and sharing the table with peers reinforces autonomy and responsibility.

• Teamwork and empathy: Coexisting 24 hours a day helps to get to know peers better, resolve small conflicts positively, and bond as a group.

Learning to coexist to grow together

At the Ateneu, we firmly believe that emotional and social education is as important as academic education. Seeing how different classes encourage each other, how they share laughter, songs, and overnight vigils is the best demonstration of the value of these experiences. They come home tired but with their backpacks full of experiences, values, and many unforgettable memories.

Creativity and English in its purest form: 6th grade participates in the National Speaking Competition

And if animals could talk, what would they say to us? This simple yet fascinating question has been the starting point for the 6th grade students of the Ateneu School to let their imagination soar and take a step forward in their mastery of the English language.

This year, our students have joined the National Speaking Competition, a national competition organized by Cambridge University Press & Assessment that motivates children to communicate in English authentically, fluently, and creatively.

Beyond grammar: public speaking and confidence in a real context

Learning a language goes far beyond memorizing vocabulary or completing exercises on paper. These types of initiatives allow students to take English into real practice, developing essential skills for their future:

• Loss of fear of public speaking: Expressing ideas in another language in front of an audience or a camera reinforces personal security and self-esteem.

• Improvement of pronunciation and intonation: The work of oratory helps to take care of the rhythm, clarity, and fluency of the speech.

• Critical thinking and creativity: Developing an argument around an imaginative topic requires structuring ideas, searching for vocabulary in context, and finding original solutions.

Learning that goes far beyond rewards

Seeing how the boys and girls of 6th grade imagine surprising dialogues, defend their positions, and enjoy the process is the best demonstration that meaningful learning is achieved when there is motivation. Beyond the results of the competition, the true prize is the journey taken and the confidence gained in the use of the English language.

Summer camp at the Ateneu with Triajock: fun, leisure, and English for an unforgettable summer

With the arrival of good weather and the end of the school year, one of the most anticipated moments for children arrives: the summer camp. This year, at the Ateneu School we have decided to renew our summer proposal in partnership with Triajock, offering a balanced model of the highest quality, specially designed to meet the needs of our families.

Awards ceremony for the best Research Projects: recognition of talent and effort at the Ateneu

The Bachillerato Research Project is one of the most demanding and enriching stages for our students. It represents their first significant contact with academic research, the scientific method, and rigorous analysis. Last Tuesday the 14th, at the Ateneu School, we celebrated the talent, perseverance, and curiosity of our students with the awards ceremony for the best works of the promotion.

This act not only rewards a final result but also values the entire learning process, hours of dedication, and passion for discovering new knowledge that lies behind each project.

The research spirit: effort, dedication, and rigor

Preparing a Research Project requires a high degree of autonomy, critical thinking, and organizational skills. For months, students have formulated hypotheses, designed experiments, analyzed data, and written complex conclusions in diverse fields such as science, technology, humanities, or the arts.

This experience provides key benefits for their future:

• Preparation for university: Students learn to structure an academic document, cite rigorous sources, and defend their work in front of a committee.

• Development of critical thinking: They learn to question information, seek evidence, and draw their own well-founded conclusions.
